Formula E: Bird extends Jaguar stay with new multi-year deal

BRITISH Formula E driver Sam Bird will stay with Jaguar TSC Racing on a new multi-year deal after a successful debut season with the British team.

Bird, 35, has competed in every single Formula E race to date since the inaugural race back in 2014.

For the majority of his Formula E career so far, Bird previously raced with Envision Virgin Racing with nine wins and a third place finish in the championship during the 2017/18 Season.

NEARLY MAN: As a prominent driver on the grid, Bird has always been able to demonstrate his qualities and proven to be one of the best when it comes to energy management

Bird joined Jaguar last season and won on his second race with the team in Diryah. A second place in Rome and a further victory followed in New York however six retirements and a disqualification meant he could not realistically challenge for the title.

Bird finished the season in sixth with 87 points and along with team-mate Mitch Evans, they helped Jaguar to their best championship result - finishing just four points behind Champions Mercedes EQ.

“My first season with Jaguar TCS Racing told me everything I needed to know - I wanted to continue to be a part of the Jaguar TCS Racing family."

As a veteran of Formula E, competing in 84 races, Bird is one of the most successful drivers not to have yet lifted the coveted trophy.

In past seasons, the British driver tends to start the season on a high - typically either winning or finishing on the podium in the opening two races. As the season progresses, Bird has fallen foul of poor reliability and a number of race incidents which impact his championship charge.

However, this new deal shows that Bird and Jaguar are committed to each other and just shows how determined Bird is to be successful in the sport.

Jaguar enter their sixth season of competing in the all-electric championship and hope to build on their second place finish of last year.

With Bird continuing alongside Evans, Jaguar head into the 2022 Season with one of the best driver line-ups on the grid.
